Managing Pain for a Bulging Disc

A bulging disc results when a healthy disc that serves as a cushion between the vertebrae loses its natural shape and compresses a spinal nerve. Also known as protruding discs, bulging discs don’t always cause symptoms, but they may cause discomfort and disability in various parts of the body if the nerve compression is severe enough. If you have nerve pain that can’t be explained, Dr. Paul M. Vassa DC at Vassa Chiropractic & Wellness can assess your condition and develop a treatment plan that meets your needs.
A disc may bulge due to age-related wear and tear, physical injury, or from back or neck strain caused by physical activity, posture imbalance, or heavy lifting. Approximately 90 percent of bulging discs occur in the lumbar area of the spine. This may result in sciatic nerve pain that travels from the buttocks, down the leg, and into the foot. Following a diagnosis of a bulging disc, Dr. Paul M. Vassa will recommend treatments that are designed to relieve symptoms such as rest, warm compresses, or therapeutic exercise.
